Antonia G. McGuire, RN
President and CEO, EMK Community Health Center
Antonia “Toni” G. McGuire, RN, MPH, joined the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center (Kennedy CHC), as President and CEO in 2008. She received her ADN/RN from the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI), her BA from Maryville University and her MPH from St. Louis University. Toni came to Kennedy CHC from Manet Community Health Center in Quincy, MA where she served as Chief Executive Officer. Having worked either in or with community health centers for over 30 years, Toni is committed to creating access to high quality, comprehensive health care for all people.
Under her strategic leadership, Kennedy CHC has grown exponentially in Central Massachusetts and MetroWest to meet the needs of the over 84 communities in this region. In 2010, she led a strategic planning process to rename the Health Center after our late-Senator, Edward M. Kennedy, unifying the organization to provide consistency across all of its medical and dental sites. Also, under Toni’s direction, Kennedy CHC has become more deliberate and strategic in identifying gaps in service, which led to the opening of a new health care site in Milford, MA in 2014. In addition, through Toni’s example, the Health Center has become a strong voice in local community health planning and has tried to incorporate and align the community needs with its own plans and efforts.
Toni has been thoughtful in taking the Kennedy CHC experience and using it as a basis to advocate for change and improvement nationally. She has often been the lone voice at the table for community health centers with non-traditional health center partners. Through these efforts, community health centers have a new stature that prepares us for the future as health care undergoes many changes.
Nationally, Toni serves as Chair of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) Sub-Committee on Health Care Finance and is a member of the Health Policy Committee. Toni was presented with the 2011 John Gilbert Award from NACHC, which recognizes longstanding excellence and leadership in community health.
Regionally, Toni serves on the Board of Directors of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation, and is an adjunct faculty at Brown University, Masters in Health Care Leadership (School of Professional Studies).
